NAS Chief Executive Robert Hudson is urging people applying for SICCS cards and booking CITB's Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) tests through third party companies to be on their guard against misleading charging policies. The standard fee for a SICCS card is £30 and the Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test costs £19.50. To book your CITB Health Safety and Environmental Test please use the following Link https://www7.pearsonvue.com/testtaker/signin/SignInPage/CITB
He says: "Our helpdesk regularly receives complaints from people who have been charged significant amounts over and above the standard fees. Whilst there are companies offering administrative services which can be useful to some organisations and individuals, we are equally aware that the fees for such services are not always clear and this can lead to significant charges levied over and above the standard fees. Recent examples highlighted to us showed that one company had charged an additional £25.50 for the HS&E test alone."
Anyone who needs support can contact the SICCS Helpline on 01883 624961 to be guided through the application process including booking the appropriate test.
The National Association of Shopfitters and Interior Contractors (NAS) has introduced the first virtual smartcard for the Shopfitting and Interior Contracting Competency Scheme (SICCS) to ensure that everyone in the sector can demonstrate the necessary level of competence, qualifications and health and safety awareness. The digital card that is stored in an app called Vircarda on a smartphone - developed by Reference Point for the CSCS Go Smart platform.
The NAS has also extended the SICCS scheme to ensure that those with the now withdrawn CSCS CRO card, who have a supply chain relationship with shopfitting and interior contracting, can join the NAS and qualify to be a full or associate NAS member.
The virtual smartcard will identify an individual’s occupational competency, from apprentice through to director level. It will only be issued to those who can demonstrate the prerequisite knowledge and a high level of health and safety awareness through the achievement of the existing CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. This will be further supported and enhanced by other qualifications based on national occupational standards in addition to key accredited learning programmes that have been developed by the Shopfitting Independent Training Forum (SITF) in conjunction with CITB, the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry.
The Virtual Scheme (SICCS) aims to provide the following benefits to employers:
What better time for the scheme (SICCS) to be introduced, for shopfitters and interior contractors and associate trades to underline their independence and show to the world at large the difference between themselves and the construction industry in general. In making this statement the Director of the NAS said “this scheme gives shopfitters the opportunity to carry the single card (SICCS) and be proud to be a part of the Shopfitting and Interior Contracting sector.
The Virtual only Scheme (SICCS) will be processed, accredited and branded by the NAS in collaboration with partners CSCS LTD and Reference Point Ltd
